An evening of creativity hosted in the spirit of decolonization & community connection.
What a treat to host this event with Emily White and Ryan Mathieson at 32 Lakes Cafe! We gathered around the topics of mental health, land connection, and artmaking. Each of us had the opportunity to share about our art practice in relation to these topics.
Created by a gathering of artists and community-minded folks this past spring, tamomiš? is a wild colour ink drawing made with the palette of qathet, Tla’amin Territory. tamomiš? means “What colour is it?” in ʔayʔaǰuθəm, the language of this land and those who have cared for it since time immemorial, the Tla’amin, Klahoose, and Homalco People.
Hosted by Emily White, Ryan Mathieson, and Annie Robinson, community members created this drawing with inks that Annie made from natural and foraged materials from our region. These three artists' desire to share their work with others and sit at the intersection of artmaking, mental health, and land connection instigated this gathering.
tamomiš? is a collaborative artifact from the circle gathering and an invitation to contemplate your sense of place, well-being, identity, and the beauty of this land and our community.
